The City of Belle Meade's Board of Commissioners met Wednesday night for its monthly meeting. The big story continues to be progress on the installation of sidewalks along Harding Place, which city officials say is two-thirds completed.
Here are three things that happened at the meeting:
1. Updates on Harding Place sidewalks project
According to Director of Public Works Larry Smith, construction of sidewalks along Harding Place is on track to be finished by late July.
Sidewalk construction will not take place the week of May 25 or on Wednesday, July 4.
Harding Place between Jackson and Lynnwood Boulevard is limited to one lane from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic is being routed to Iroquois Avenue during the project.
In April, the board approved the construction of the $342,800 sidewalk construction on both sides of Harding Place. Read more about the sidewalks here.
2. Changes anticipated for dumpster access
The city is looking to change how Belle Meade residents access the three dumpsters located behind City Hall. Commissioners say they want to ensure only Belle Meade residents use the dumpsters and that prohibited items are not being thrown away.
"We're looking to issue some type of pass (for dumpster access)," said Police Chief Tim Eads.
Dumpster access is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., however, due to overfill during the day, city officials have had to restrict access soon after unlocking the gate.
"I've seen it within three hours totally full," Smith said.
In the meantime, commissioners ask residents to break down cardboard material to alleviate crowded dumpsters.
The following items are not allowed in city dumpsters:
- Paint cans
- Construction debris.
3. Early voting dates set for Aug. 2 primary
Belle Meade City Hall, located at 4705 Harding Pike, is an early voting location for the Aug. 2 primary. Residents can vote early beginning Thursday, July 19, until Saturday, July 28. Early voting locations are closed on Sundays.
Here is a list of all early voting locations:
An agenda is published prior to each meeting and can be found on the city's website.
The next Board of Commissioners meeting is June 20 at 4 p.m. at City Hall, located at 4705 Harding Pike.
