City of Belle Meade

The City of Belle Meade installed additional fencing and a new access gate to the dumpsters behind City Hall. The change is in response to continued overuse of the service, city officials said.

In addition to structural security measures, there will be new regulations that aim to minimize overflow and misuse, which officials say are resulting in extra costs and fines for the trash contractor. The dumpsters will only be accessible to Belle Meade residents.

What are the new rules?

Unlike before, the access door to the dumpsters will remain locked at all times. A call button on the intercom located at the access door will ring a dispatcher in the police department, who will then view your ID to verify you are a Belle Meade resident.

If you regularly send someone else to the dumpsters, such as hired staff, the city says you will need to provide that person's information. The city will keep a list of names on file and must see a driver's license upon arrival in all cases.

Belle Meade installed additional security cameras in the area, as a safety measure for staff and for monitoring the use of the dumpsters.

What items are prohibited?

The following items are not allowed in city dumpsters:

  • Paint cans
  • Batteries
  • Mattresses
  • Electronics
  • Furniture
  • Construction debris

The city dumpsters are open 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. City Hall is located at 4705 Harding Pike.
