Holiday travel should be a smooth ride for Tennessee drivers, as far as road work is concerned. With the exception of a few long-term closures, TDOT is suspending all construction-related lane closures on Tennessee interstates and state highways during Christmas and New Year's.

“With over two million drivers expected to travel Tennessee roadways during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, keeping traffic moving and getting motorists to their destinations safely is our top priority,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer in a news release on Monday.

AAA predicts more than 2.5 million drivers are expected to travel by car in Tennessee between Christmas and New Year’s. The break in road work is set to begin at noon on Friday, December 21 and last until 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2.
